When a hummingbird is in flight, its wings beat so quickly, you can’t see them—it is as if the bird is upheld in place. What this industrious little bird teaches us is that even in motion, we can simultaneously embody stillness.

The hummingbird works hard to find sweetness in its life. In this depiction, we see it alighted upon a plum blossom, a treasured symbol in China. The plum blossom tree endures for many years and its flowers bloom most brightly during the harshest winter conditions. As such, the plum blossom has come to signify perseverance and hope through adversity.
